Thousands of Entries Submitted From Across Qatar, Winning Image Won Over 13,000 Votes
Qatar Airways in cooperation with Consolidated Gulf Co. (CGC) and Nokia awarded winners of its joint Qatar National Day photography contest with tickets to fly anywhere on the airline’s network, as well as an assortment of Nokia mobile phones.
Held over a one month period in celebration of Qatar National Day (December 18), the contest gave photography enthusiasts a chance to showcase their camera skills while in action taking in scenes in and around Qatar.
At a celebration at the airline’s newest office at the Pearl, the winners were congratulated by Qatar Airways and CGC senior executives.
Top winners were selected by public voting on the Qatar Airways photo contest web site.
The single criteria for the photo entries were that the images had to be taken in and around Qatar and should capture the nation’s culture, key landmarks and scenic landscapes.
Qatar Airways Vice President Qatar Mr. Ehab Amin said: “The competition was held in the spirit of celebrating National Day and we were thrilled with the overwhelming response to this competition from residents and travellers who have visited Qatar.
“Qatar Airways was pleased to provide this unique opportunity to the many talented photographers and we look forward to welcoming them to experience the airline’s hospitality onboard when travelling to one of the many unique destinations the airline flies to,” said Amin.
CGC’s James Mahoney, Senior Manager, Projects, said: “CGC was pleased to celebrate National Day with Qatar Airways and proud to support the winners of this competition with some fabulous prizes.”
“This is in line with our commitment to promote Qatar’s culture, tradition and talents and we look forward to supporting more activities, particularly those that inspire young people towards sustainable development and growth.”
The photo with the most votes, taken by Mohammad Khalil Sabbagh, won two return Economy Class tickets from Doha to anywhere Qatar Airways flies, plus a Nokia N9 mobile phone.
All mobile phone prizes were courtesy of CGC. In total there were 85 winning entries, out of which the top photographers were invited. The remaining winners were all provided with one of the Nokia mobile phones.
